Community Idea Stations Business Connections Spring 2013

Community Idea Stations will be having a networking and connection event on May 30th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will host business professionals from throughout the area who enjoy building and strengthening business relationships. The event is presented by Professionals Referral Organization (PRO) and 40 vendors will be on site displaying the best of their products and services. Light refreshments will be served in the station’s beautiful atrium, teleconference room and adjoining studio located at 23 Sesame Street, Richmond, VA 23235.  There will be no charge for admission or parking.

RTD’s Public Square #47 on Food and jobs: Attracting RVA’s next generation

public squareThe Richmond Times-Dispatch is having their Public Square #47 on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 7-8:30 pm. The event will discuss what our city can do to stay relevant for the coming generations. They will address findings from a sweeping assessment by Richmond millennials on the future and what it will take for them to become a vibrant part of that future.

Dominion Riverrock This Weekend

Dominion Riverrock, organized by Venture Richmond and the Sports Backers, is the nation’s premier outdoor lifestyle festival, bringing athletes, spectators, musicians, and even dogs to Brown’s Island for a three-day festival against the backdrop of downtown Richmond’s urban riverfront. Enjoy the weekend celebrating Richmond’s beautiful riverfront.

Dominion Riverrock features live concerts throughout the weekend, an incredible interactive village, and sporting events including the Miller Lite Filthy 5k, James River Scramble 10k Trail Run, Boulder Bash, Slacklining, and more. For a full list of events and times, click here.

Festival admission is free, but anyone wishing to compete in a Dominion Riverrock event must pay to enter. Walk-up registration for all events will be accepted on site unless the event has reached its capacity.

La Plaza Farmers Market Grand Opening Celebration May 13th

La Plaza Farmers Market will have their grand opening celebration on May 13, 2013 at the Broad Rock Sports Complex in South Richmond. The goal of La Plaza is to improve health of the surrounding communities as well as to provide an affordable, accessible market opportunity for primarily Latino and African-American farmers and producers. They opened last April 2012 and are gearing up for an even better second season. The Market will operate every Monday, from 4 to 8 pm, from May 6 to October 14, 2013. Organizers of the Market are currently looking for vendors, volunteers, and sponsors for the upcoming market season.

La Plaza is a unique farmers market, and offers a mix of produce, crafts, and food, along with cultural surprises every week. Organizers of the local market in the Southside location work to promote healthy, active living, provide an economic outlet for local farmers, artisans and emerging businesses, while encouraging intercultural exchange and the use of Broad Rock Sports Complex and public library by the local community, overall fostering a greater sense of community cohesion.

Flying Squirrels Tailgate May 16th

flyingsquirrel LOGO with TMThe Richmond Flying Squirrels will be having a tailgate party on Thursday, May 16th to check out the newly renovated ORC Pavilion. Come tailgate with the Flying Squirrels staff before the VCU vs. University of Richmond game at The Diamond. They have put over $50,000 worth of renovations into the space and want to showcase the area that can be used for tailgating and events. This will be a free networking event from 5-7 pm. There will be live music, free food and drinks, free admission to the game, games and giveaways! One lucky attendee will win a 25 person outing in the ORC pavilion. VIT Night at Chesterfield Town Center

logo_ChesterfieldChesterfield Town Center and the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce will be having their 3rd Annual V.I.T. or Very Important Teacher night on Tuesday, May 7th. This Chesterfield collaboration is to celebrate and show gratitude to all of the teachers in the Richmond region. The event will be from 4-7 pm at the Chesterfield Town Center. All area educators are invited from the surrounding counties, invites have been sent from CTC to Chesterfield County, Henrico County, Hanover County, Prince George County and Dinwiddie County. All public and private educators are welcomed. Festivities include product demonstrations, make-overs, various enter-to-win offers, raffle prizes from CTC merchants, discounts throughout the mall for teachers only, a wine tasting held for educators only at Virginia Diner and a fashion show in the HomeGoods Atrium.  Several area school administrators will be attending the event and speaking to the teaching audience.

SCORE of Richmond will be having a business seminar on May 11, 2013 from 9 am – 4 pm. The seminar is titled “Take Your Established Business to the Next Level” and will give you practical tools, tactics and strategies to optimize and grow your business. This is a new full day workshop designed for owners of established businesses who would benefit from contemporary strategies and tactics that can jump-start growth and get their businesses on a stronger growth track. The seminar will be at the Village Bank headquarters at 15521 Midlothian Turnpike, Midlothian, VA. The cost of the workshop is $125.00 which includes free parking, lunch and free follow-up mentoring from SCORE personnel. Payment must be received by the end of the day May 10, 2013. Interstate All Battery Center Grand Opening

interstatebatteryCome join Interstate All Battery Center for their Glen Allen Grand Opening on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The event will be from 11 am to 3 pm at their 10311 W Broad Street location. There will be plenty of family friendly activities, free food, product discounts and giveaways! There will be a special appearance of a local fire truck from Henrico County Station #22 for kids to explore and free scoops of Blue Bell Ice Cream donated by Burger Works. Throughout the event Interstate All Battery will be collecting donations for the Richmond SPCA, you can find a list for donations here. For each donation, customers will receive a free pack of AA or AAA batteries.  This will be a great event for the whole family and a chance to see all of the great products that Interstate All Battery Center has to offer!

Show of Hands Opening Art Reception at the Gallery at UNOS

The Opening Reception for the Show of Hands exhibit at the Gallery at UNOS will be Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Show of Hands is the end result of a year-long collaboration that has included Saint Gertrude High School students learning about UNOS, organ donation and transplantation. Show of Hands is named in honor of service leadership which is an important component to St. Gertrude’s students and staff. Girls are required to volunteer to lend a helping hand to impact their community. 50 Saint Gertrude students participated in the making of this exhibit as well as students from several middle schools that feed into Saint Gertrude. Student volunteers will be performing at the opening reception in support of UNOS and are greeters at UNOS for the Go Discover Richmond walk on May 4th.

This event is free and open to the public. The event is located at the Gallery at UNOS at 700 North 4th Street, Richmond, VA. The Gallery’s daily hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.Layout 1
